Nature is indifferent and must be respected. When we hike in the wilderness, it is not a zoo or a scripted reality show. Prior planning and preparation can go a long ways in mitigating many of the risks, yet the unexpected can always occur. A man walking (while dribbling a soccer ball) from Seattle to Sao Paulo (10,000 miles) to see the 2014 World Cup was hit from behind and killed by an automobile in Lincoln City, Oregon, just 14 days into his trip. http://sports.yahoo.com/...world-cup-002630224.html
