Looks like Geocaching has a completely new smart phone app available for download. Have not tried it out yet with an actual find. Looks more "modern", though I'm not sure why they needed a new app instead of just updating the existing one.

Thanks: 1 times
My son recently told me about a new app called "Pokémon Go". After looking into it, it reminded me a lot of geocaching, only in a virtual sense, because the "treasures" don't exist in the real world, only in your smart phone. I don't think the treasures are fixed to a particular grid coordinate, per se, but it still creates the excitement many geocachers thrive on of "finding" something nearby.

Check it out.
Happy Trails!

Interesting. Pokémon Go has some similarities to virtual caches in particular, even though those are no longer supported by Geocaching.com anymore.

I had lunch with a guy from Niantic Labs (the makers of this game) here in the Bay Area. There was some discussion about getting some Texas Hiking locations incorporated into their Field Trip app, which may still happen.
