Nice stroll through the neighborhood
North Star Greenbelt [Hiking] - 6/1/2013  [View Log Page]
Rating: Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 2.67 Miles Duration: 56 minutes

Coppertone and I mapped out this trail and a couple of others in the area that we had not done up to this point.  All of the trail is pavement, which makes it ideal for walking with kids or riding bikes.

I was a bit surprised to see the number of benches and landscaping along the trail.  Since almost all of the trail is beneath high tension power lines I was expecting more open fields and less vegetation.

Completing the map
Gracywoods Park [Hiking] - 6/1/2013  [View Log Page]
Rating: Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 1.75 Miles Duration: 35 minutes

Coppertone and I revisited Gracywoods to complete a couple of spurs that we had not mapped before.  Things looked a bit more run down than the last time we both had been here.  One of the wooden ramps leading down to the creek was boarded up  and closed since it is starting to fall apart.  We had to cross via the bridge over Metric instead.

Short mapping stop
Scofield Farms [Hiking] - 6/1/2013  [View Log Page]
Rating: Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 0.73 Mile Duration: 17 minutes

Coppertone and I stopped by to map out this trail since we were in the area.  It's the same park where a few years ago we took part in an It's My Park Day project to pick up trash and add mulch around some of the park's trees.

Mileage and steps
Georgetown - San Gabriel Trail [Hiking] - 5/27/2013  [View Log Page]
Rating: Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 10.00 Miles Duration: 3 hours, 54 minutes

Started off at Booty's Road Park and headed towards Georgetown, did the loop around San Gabriel Park and doubled back to the car.  Coppertone got a new pedometer and is now competing against others at work, so she was keen on getting some mileage in, even if she was breaking in new footwear.

We noted a number of large snails high up on mileage posts or street lights.  I'm not sure why they seem inclined to make that much of an effort.

The partly cloudy skies helped hold down the temperatures.  We were thankful for that.

Finishing out at 10 miles just feet from our car we could not have planned the distance any better!

Decided that we'd come back to do the remainder of the trail to Overlook Park on a different day.  We also need to come back and map the South San Gabriel River Trail segment.

Plenty of people enjoying the trail.
Purgatory Creek Natural Area [Hiking] - 5/12/2013  [View Log Page]
Rating: Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 8.40 Miles Duration: 4 hours, 4 minutes

I hiked most of upper Purgatory Creek today.  The one exception was the Paraiso Trail, which is closed through the end of May for Golden Cheek Warbler nesting.  I'll come back another time to mark that part off.

The weather was pleasant today and not too hot.  There were some muddy sections to navigate given the recent rains but much of the trail is rather rough and rocky so the was not much of an issue.

During my hike I spotted two white tail deer and even a wild turkey.  Unlike the deer, the wild turkey didn't seem too disturbed by my presense.
