Nice Sunday Afternoon Jaunt
Pedernales Falls - 4-Mile Loop [Hiking] - 5/3/2010  [View Log Page]
Rating: Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 5.00 Miles Duration: N/A

I took a quick Sunday afternoon trip to PFSP and made the 4 mile loop. I almost backed out of doing the 4 mile loop because the river was so high. It got pretty tricky wading acrolls Trammel crossing with the current. The trail is  pretty much typical for a hill country SP trail (old ranch road) but was still quite enjoyable. It had its moments when the scenery was very good. I especally enjoyed spending some time looking at an old rock wall and cemetery located in the NE corner of the trail. I did some research trying to find more information about the old cemetary but I found nothing other than a few comments from other hikers. Beware if you hike this trail in the summer heat make sure and bring plenty of water. The biggest part of the trail in in direct sunlight. The trip back through the ford was nice. I spent some time letting my feet soak after the hike. All in all a nice little hike.

Nice bit of wilderness in the city
Friedrich Wilderness Park [Hiking] - 4/20/2010  [View Log Page]
Rating: Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 5.30 Miles Duration: 2 hours, 30 minutes

Nice little piece of wilderness. Its a shame that more of it couldn't have been rescued from the developers. Really noisy however due to plane traffic , automotive traffice to the east and barking dogs from the residental neighborhood on the north side. I was surprised at the number of people in the more rugged portions of the trail.

Its a nice bit of hiking and it has a few spots in it that will make your legs burn. The lack of solitude is a real turn off for me however.

Plain
Guadalupe River State Park [Hiking] - 4/18/2010  [View Log Page]

Pretty bland trail. It's only redeeming quality was the wild flowers were in bloom.  Park service was clearing cedar underbrush with some sort of machine that chunks up the trees and leaves the pieces laying everywhere. I suppose they are using this technique as opposed to control burns because its safer. If you get off trail in that stuff  watch your step.
